Thursday, January 21, 2010
Well, happy belated new year everyone!  I really don’t post much news anymore, but it's worth mentioning that the big plans I teased about last year are still going to happen.  Look for an epic storyline to unfold within the U-Boy comic that will change everything.
Sunday, January 18, 2009
So here's the first update of the year, and it's a little bit later than I had planned.  I'm still going to try to update more often from now on.  My ideal target is at least four comics per month like I used to.  If all goes according to plan, there's going to be some big events in thet comic this year.
Thursday, December 25, 2008
It's Christmas, so Merry Christmas to everyone!  Updates have slowed down due to an increased workload at the school I'm attending.  Sorry about that.  I'll jump the gun and reveal my New Year's Resolution is to keep the comic on a more regular updating schedule.
Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I'm back from my vacation.  So the updates will resume now.
Monday, May 19, 2008
I didn't succeed in last week's attempt to update the site more than twice.  I got knocked out pretty badly by a cold, and then I got tied up with a whole bunch of other things.  But now it's back to normal, although I know that the site won't be updated more than once or twice this week, and then they'll be no more updates until June because I'm going on a vacation.  Still, I hope to update at least twice this week.
Monday, May 12, 2008
This week, that is May 12-16, I'm going to try to update the site more than twice, maybe even up to five times this week.  That's because for the time being, I have tons of time to draw.
Saturday, February 02, 2008
Sorry to everyone for posting only two comics in January.  What's more shameful is that I was between contracts at work, so I had way more time to draw but I didn't do it anyway!  But now that I'm working again, the comic will resume its regular schedule, even though in some ways that doesn't make sense since now I have less time to draw it.
Saturday, December 29, 2007
Today's update will be the last of the year.  Happy new year everyone, see you soon.
Monday, November 19, 2007
Man, I am ashamed to see the last update was a month ago!  This long gap between strips was partially due to work-related travel, partially due to personal travel, and because my PC had to be sent in for repairs which left me with no scanner.  Hopefully this new comic begins the twice-weekly updates again.
Friday, October 19, 2007
I have to admit, drawing dancers is a lot harder than I thought it would be.  And here I am about to start a big story set in a dance school!  But I like the challenge.  Unfortunately that challenge caused only one comic last week and this week.  Next week I'll be travelling again for work related purposes, so unfortunately there will not be any new comics next week.
Thursday, September 20, 2007
I'm back to the regular schedule of updating now.  You know, all I ever talk about in the news is the fact that I updated.  I guess I should talk about other things.  I just finished reading a fun comic called 'Cryptozoo Crew' drawn by Jerry Carr, whom I got to meet recently.  Very cool guy and very talented.
Tuesday, September 18, 2007
It's Tuesday, and I'm back with updates.  So hopefully there will be another update Thursday.
Friday, September 14, 2007
It's been a very busy week, and I was fighting a bad cold, which means this week I only managed to produce one comic, and only one last week.  Hopefully I'll be back to twice a week updates next week.
Tuesday, August 28, 2007
Well I didn't quite post a new comic every weekday last week like I hoped.  It was actually because I THOUGHT I posted the new comic, which was drawn on Friday, but then it seems I completely forgot to actually upload it.  Whoops.
Monday, August 20, 2007
I'm back from my travelling.  Since I haven't updated the site in two weeks, I'm going to post more than usual the number of comics this week.  Hopefully, there will be a new one every weekday this week.
Saturday, August 04, 2007
Yes, I'm late with the update.  No reason other than taking longer than usual for the comic.  And I won't be updating the site for at least two weeks because I'm going to be leaving town on work-related travel.  I might get the chance to do some drawing, but I probably won't be actually posting anything on the site.  Until then, enjoy the new comic.
Thursday, July 26, 2007
Today, besides having a new comic, also features an upgrade to the Gallery, technologically speaking. Now it's got a spiffy new way of displaying images.  Just check it out, you'll see what I mean.  No new images in there yet, but hopefully soon I'll bring it back to life.
Thursday, July 19, 2007
The movie they are watching in this week's comic (July 2007 Comic 6) is 'Dirty Dancing.'  But really, everyone should know that.  Even if you hate the movie or are a guy, it should be obvious.
Monday, July 16, 2007
Yeah, this week's comic (July 2007 Comic 5) features a mention of a Brazillian wax.  Those of you who don't know what a Brazillian wax is, look it up yourself!
Monday, July 09, 2007
I'm going to be kicking off another big story, this time it's about Anca learning to dance, but the other characters will be in it. It will also be a bit different from the other big stories because some comics not related to the story will still appear sometimes.  This story will likely be pretty long, but at the same time it will make sense to give a sense that other things are happening as she's learning to dance.
Tuesday, July 03, 2007
I did some research on Romanian to get the swearing right in the latest comic (June 2007 Comic 9).  Originally there wasn't going to be a thought bubble above Usher but I realized without an explanation, nobody would get what Anca is saying at all unless you speak Romanian.  The Romanian swearing, which I did research, was done as an in-joke to the "real" Anca.
Tuesday, June 26, 2007
I admit, this week's comic (June 2007 Comic 7) won’t make sense to anyone who reads it and hasn't read the paintball comics, which are luckily available in the archive.  Just part of my plan to ensure that anyone who stumbles here reads more than the latest comic.
Thursday, June 14, 2007
In case you didn't know, I've brought the Ubai comics back online.  Not on this site, nor on its own site, although someday that is the plan.  Right now it's on my Comicspace, so go check it out.  Sadly, volume 2 of Ubai is not finished yet, but I absolutely will finish it.
Sunday, June 10, 2007
Been a bit busy which is why I didn't update.  I actually really like how this one turned out.
Tuesday, June 05, 2007
Well I didn't finish the third one last week.  But here's the next one now.
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
I might break my promise I made last week and update more than twice this week.  It depends whether I can get a third one done this week or not.
Wednesday, May 23, 2007
Well I'm back in Washington D.C. now, which means that I'm back working a 9 to 5 job on weekdays.  So updates will be twice a week as they were before.
Tuesday, May 22, 2007
This week's comic is called 'Eisenmann', which is German for 'Iron man.'  I just felt I should explain it.  Oh yeah, and the word 'Kreuz' that Reinholdt says at the end means 'cross'.  I felt I should explain that too.
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
Most of you are probably wondering what "Erstes Blut" means.  It means "First Blood" in German.  And if you don't know what "First Blood" means, look it up on IMDB.
Thursday, May 10, 2007
You know what? I'm going to stop writing something for every update unless I have something to say.  I've been writing these little news items for every comic for years, but I rarely have anything to say other than that there's a new comic up and that you should read it.  But now that the comic is above the news, it kind of defeats the purpose of announcing it with the text.
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
You know what's funny is I forgot about this comic.  I started drawing it a while ago and pretty much finished it, but then I just forgot about it because this one deals with Isabela and Reinholdt rather than Ernie.  Then I realized that I have to finish this comic or the next one won't make sense!
Sunday, May 06, 2007
Like some of the recent comics I've posted, the joke in the latest one will be enjoyed more by those of you who at least know about World of Warcraft.  But if you don't, I hope you still like it.  Everyone likes watching people dance.
Thursday, May 03, 2007
This week's comic continues the paintball story, and is another comic that you likely may not get if you know nothing about videogames.  All you need to know is that yes, videogamers type like that.  Spelling and grammar are lost arts.
Wednesday, May 02, 2007
Yup I'm a bit late this week.  But better late than never, and hopefully there will be yet another one tomorrow to put me back on track.
Saturday, April 28, 2007
Well I promised that there would be more than two updates this week.  And just by a nose too!  Actually, it was problems logging into the site to update it that caused the delay more than anything else.  Hopefully there will be more than two updates next week too.
Thursday, April 26, 2007
I don't typically do "in-jokes" unless they are like supplemental to another joke.  But in the new comic it's pretty much all in-joke, so maybe I should explain a bit for those of you who don't know anything about the computer game World of Warcraft.  Basically, Leeroy Jenkins is a famous video about that game, and this comic, and the title, references the key parts of that video.  I'm too lazy to write more, so go here if you want to read more about it.
Tuesday, April 24, 2007
Sorry for the lack of updates for a week, and after so many weeks of continuous updates.  I'm back in Winnipeg for a little while so I was kind of busy.  This means for the time being I have more time to devote to the comic, so I'm going to try for a little bit to get even more comics out per week for the next few weeks.  So enjoy the first of what will be more than two this week!
Thursday, April 12, 2007
I must confess, despite the years I've been drawing, I still have trouble with hands from unusual angles.  Which is why I totally redid the last panel of this week's comic, which originally looked way off from what I wanted.
Tuesday, April 10, 2007
Not much to say except that this week continues, or more like builds up to, the office paintball game.  I admit I know fairly little about paintball since I've never actually played it.  I did do a bit of research for the purposes of this story, but mostly for references for the paintball guns.
Thursday, April 05, 2007
I kinda thought the name I came up with for the paintball shop was clever.  Jay's P.B., as in PB & J, you know, Peanut Butter and Jelly?  That, and Jay's P.B. rhymes with APB, which is the acronym for All Points Bulletin.
Tuesday, April 03, 2007
You know what the hardest part of this week's comic was?  Trying to find song lyrics that were appropriately silly, mildly annoying and yet well-known enough so that people would get the references.  Sorry if your favorite song was chosen, but come on, I'm not the first, nor will I be the last person, to make fun of those songs.

Oh yeah, and I've overhauled the comics page interface.  It looks quite nice.  Now you can see all the comics in the currently selected year from one screen.
Thursday, March 29, 2007
In case you haven't noitced, the comic is starting another storyline.  This time it's about paintball.  It's a story I've wanted to write about for a while, ever since I read an article about how some offices use paintball to build team spirit.
Tuesday, March 27, 2007
Well, I can guarantee this week will have at least two comics.  Maybe more.  Come to think of it I have been talking about making two comics a week lately as if it's unusual even though it's not.  Maybe I should try post a comic every day!
Thursday, March 22, 2007
The last panel of this comic was written about a year ago.  In fact it was one of the first things I ever wrote with Isabela, and it's taken this long to finally draw.
Tuesday, March 20, 2007
The new comic is a bit of an in-joke, which I don't do unless I think it works without people knowing the context.  In this case, it's Ernie's so called "clever" line that a colleague of mine says sometimes, and it really pisses me off sometimes!
Thursday, March 15, 2007
Well I did it, though meeting the deadline was a close call again.  I guess there's not much else to talk about in terms of the comic other than how close I came to missing a deadline that I set and that I enforce alone.
Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Meeting this week's first deadling was a bit of a close call.  In fact, I have to get scrambling if I'm going to have another comic for Thursday!  So I gotta go!
Thursday, March 08, 2007
The idea for the new comic actually came last summer.  It's just taken this long to finally draw it.  That is one reason why the only the 'original' cast of Usher's work colleagues are in it.  The other reason is laziness.
Tuesday, March 06, 2007
Not much to say about this update, except that this has nothing to do with that movie 'Dreamgirls' winning at the Oscars.  This gag was actually written a while ago, and it was done just because bouffant hairdos are funny.
Thursday, March 01, 2007
I kept my promise, another comic today.  After doing two per week for the past few weeks, now I'm going to always try for two a week.  It seems like too long between updates now to do it only once a week.  I guess I've been spoiling myself.
Tuesday, February 27, 2007
Not much to say about today's comic, except that it's new.  And that there will be another one on Thursday, as it has been for the past few weeks.  Enjoy!
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
I decided to update a day earlier today because tomorrow I probably won't have an opportunity due to silly work-related matters.  And since the comic was done already I figured I might as well upload it now.
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Well, this one is kind of based on a true story.  A bit exagerrated but it's funnier that way.
Thursday, February 15, 2007
Another day, another update.  Some days I have nothing to say, but for some reason I'm compelled to write something whenever I post the comic.  Well, I guess I can say that I've once again done another week with two comics.
Tuesday, February 13, 2007
This week introduces a new character.  I don't introduce new characters if I can't think of anything for them to do that I can't do with another character.  This time I planned the story arc with Saima, as opposed to the unplanned Anca one.
Thursday, February 08, 2007
And with this comic, this particular story arc closes.  I didn't plan this story arc, it just happened as I went along.  But I think that's a good thing, because it shows how characters rather than gags can drive the storyline.
Tuesday, February 06, 2007
There will be two updates this week.  One today, one on Thursday.  With a money-back guarantee.
Friday, February 02, 2007
I said I'd update twice this week, so here it is.  Next week will likely be more than one update as well.  I wish I had the time to do this comic every day, but sadly this is only my night job.  Maybe someday I'll do it as an experiment.
Wednesday, January 31, 2007
Yeah, I didn't update in two weeks.  But I do actually have enough comics done for the next few updates, so I'll likely be posting them more than once a week for a little while.
Thursday, January 18, 2007
This comic takes a break from the Anca storyline, and serves as a teaser, or really more as a background setup, for a story I plan to do in the future.  It's the first hint of what's happened to the old U-Boy characters.
Friday, January 12, 2007
Happy new year everyone.  Enjoy the first new comic of 2007, kicking off another year of the strip.  It's hard to believe this is the eigth year I've been doing this!  Back when I started I had no idea the comic would go nearly this long.
Wednesday, December 20, 2006
Not much ot say except another comic is up.  I'll likely update at least once more before the year's up.  I've got enough ideas to last for a while, so if I ever slack off again in the future it's only because I am slow in getting them drawn.
Sunday, December 17, 2006
Yup, new comic already.  I wish I could do a comic every day but unfortunately this isn't my full-time job.  Oh, and the person that inspired Anca liked the comic, but did kind of object to being the office 'slut', even though Anca is NOT that.
Wednesday, December 13, 2006
This strip introduces a new character, and like the rest of them she is loosely based on someone at the office.  I'm going to be gutsy and publish it online before the person sees it.  So hopefully the person will take it with good humor.
Wednesday, December 06, 2006
Finally, a comic without Reinholdt.  Actually he'll be back but it's nice to do comics with the other characters.  There's going to be big developments related to the site, even if they are not all on the site itself.  You'll see.
Monday, November 27, 2006
The last comic of the Vietnam saga is up.  This one ran much longer in both installments and time than planned.  This is due to me being unexpectedly busy and drawing more parts than I planned to.  Still I think it was a worthwhile venture.
Thursday, November 23, 2006
We are FINALLY at the penultimate comic of the Vietnam story, and revealing what exactly happened when Reinholdt mentioned a knife fight near the beginning of the story.  I'd talk more about the entire saga but I'll save it for final comic.
Sunday, November 19, 2006
This comic has actually been ready for a couple days, but I've just been neglecting to upload it.  Oh well, it's up now.
Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Yes, I am updating again.  It feels so good I might do it again this week.  Looking back, it's kind of disappointing to see I only did two comics in October.  I've already surpassed that number this month but there will be more real soon.
Wednesday, November 08, 2006
I'm updating the comic again because it's ready.  That's all.  Well, that and look for another one real soon, and I mean less than a week from today.
Sunday, November 05, 2006
There was a slight hiccup because the site went down due to a hosting problem.  But everything is back now.  And there's a new comic up.  And that is that.
Wednesday, October 25, 2006
Yes, this week I've posted a new comic, about one week after the previous one.  And the next one will be up next week, maybe even sooner.  Enjoy "There's danger on the edge of town."
Thursday, October 19, 2006
Sorry about another long gap between updates, it was the first panel.  Seriously, I actually redrew it several times, but ultimately I decided this was the best one.  At least naming the comics are easy, it's another lyric of the Doors.
Thursday, September 28, 2006
Another part of the Vietnam story goes up, and so it is also titled after another lyric from "The End" by the Doors.
Thursday, September 21, 2006
This week is the first part of the end of the Vietnam story.  That may sound a little contradictory but believe me it makes sense.  Oh and yes that is the first line of "The End" by the Doors.
Thursday, September 07, 2006
Like I said, this week I am posting two comics.  The "Thud" title of this week refers to the nickname of the F-105 Thunderchief given to it by the pilots who flew it.
Tuesday, September 05, 2006
The comic has been late again, but this week I plan to make up for it by posting two.  I hope to finish the Vietnam story real soon.  By the way, the plane in the comic is an F-105 Thunderchief, which was actually used in the Vietnam war.
Tuesday, August 22, 2006
I was working on this comic for over a week, hence I missed the update last week.  So here it is, a little late but it's here.
Friday, August 11, 2006
This week continues a series of comics telling a Vietnam story.  I wasn't sure if I was going to do it, because my original story idea was quite long but I decided it's a chance to try some new art techniques and tell a slightly darker story.
Thursday, August 03, 2006
Not much to say about this one, except it's about Reinholdt, and it will still tie into some future stories.
Thursday, July 27, 2006
This week's comic is kind of a prequel to some upcoming stories.  I'll hopefully be able to keep up a weekly schedule again but remember there's always the RSS feed if you want to be kept informed of the latest comic, whenever it appears.
Thursday, July 20, 2006
I wanted to get this comic done before the reference got too old.  It's already getting there, but for those of you who still absolutely have no idea what the new comic refers to, just search for "Zinedine Zidane" on the internet.
Monday, July 17, 2006
This week's comic makes the most sense to anyone who has worked in a bureacracy.  But at the same time I hope everyone else gets the joke, and if you don't work in a bureaucratic environment, yes the comic shows pretty much how things are (not) done.
Monday, July 10, 2006
The new comic is kind of based on a true story.  I saw a guy in a convertible yell out, "we're in a convertible!" and speed off.  I don't know why but I wanted to throw something at him, but I had nothing.  And that's why comics are good.
Wednesday, July 05, 2006
The new comic was printed a few weeks ago called 'Sounds nicer in Spanish.'  But this one has the Spanish written that Usher says.  Anyone who speaks Spanish can translate it themselves, but it's PRETTY close to what Usher says in the original.
Wednesday, June 28, 2006
The new comic is a bit of an inside joke.  But I don't want to get into trouble at work or anything so I don't think I should reveal it right now.  But I think the joke is general enough that I don't need to explain it.
Monday, June 26, 2006
The comic this week was supposed to go up a few weeks ago but then I came up with the idea of extending the 'black eye' story a few more parts.  Then I fell behind on those, and so this comic finally came out, but now the reference is slightly dated.
Thursday, June 22, 2006
I wanted to post the second part of this story now because I've been a bit behind for the past couple weeks.  So this way I can still say I posted the usual number of comics per month, even if they weren't exactly weekly.
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
I've decided to delete the webmaster AT u-boy.com email address.  I get nothing but spam email from it these days.  You are still all free to contact me through the site, just use the new contact form.
Tuesday, June 20, 2006
I'm a bit late I know, but there's finally a new comic.  This week's comic was lettered totally on computer, so it might look a bit different.  I also didn't plan on doing more stuff with Usher's black eye but I came up with a funny idea for it.
Tuesday, June 06, 2006
Hello all. I'm updating from Washington D.C., as I've been hired back by the office that I was at before.  The comic will continue, though it will be kind of funny since I have to work again with the people who "loosely" inspire many of the gags.
Thursday, May 25, 2006
This is actually the second time I've drawn a comic with this gag.  The first one was a comic I drew for someone just for fun, although this new version is longer and has more knives.  And isn't that what's needed in comics these days?
Friday, May 19, 2006
The comic this week was inspired by an actual product me and a co-worker saw on thinkgeek.com, and we always joked about getting one for the office.  We never did though, since there'd be marshmallows everywhere.
Thursday, May 11, 2006
I actually forgot to update the comic until now.  Whoops.  Anyway, enjoy the comic now that it IS up.
Wednesday, May 03, 2006
Another day, another comic.  This one might have been funnier as a cartoon, because I'm trying to capture the motions and craziness of well, you can take a guess who I am parodying in the new comic.  Here's a hint, his name rhymes with Mittfur.
Tuesday, April 25, 2006
Hi all.  Two things to mention. First off, please change your RSS feed to http://www.u-boy.com/comicfeed.asp.

Second, enjoy the new comic.  That is all.

Wednesday, April 19, 2006
I told ya I'd publish whenever I could.  For at least a little while I'm going to post two comics a week.  Especially since it's the beginning and the new characters have to be introduced.
Monday, April 17, 2006
The site is back with a whole new look!  And, the comic is back too!  Usher is now in an office job in a new city with a whole new cast of characters.  These new comics are inspired by my days working in an office in Washington D.C.
